This is how I turn a humble Irish soda bread into something guests rave about.
After many years baking Irish Soda Bread for photo shoots and for St. Patty’s Day, this recipe has become a family favorite!
These Irish soda bread biscuits are simple… but here’s the trick!
You make the batter all in one bowl, spoon or scoop, brush with butter, and sprinkle with sugar for extra beautiful lusciousness and shine!
I always serve them in a basket or on a board with decorative napkin for a lovely presentation!
These Irish soda bread biscuits are simple — but with a few small tricks a little styling goes a long way.

Irish Soda Bread Biscuits
✔️What You Need:
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar, divided
1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
¼ cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, divided
1/2 cup raisins or currants or more if you love raisins!
1 egg, beaten
½ cup buttermilk
✔️ How to Make It!
Preheat oven to 325°F. .
In a large bowl, combine flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, 1 half of the melted butter (2 tablespoons) and buttermilk. Stir until the mixture just combines.
Add raisins and continue to mix together until welled combined.
Spoon or scoop (about ¼ cup mixture) onto parchment lined baking sheet about 2-inches apart.
Brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until biscuits are golden.
Serve warm with Irish butter1
Pro Tip: Baked biscuits can be made ahead and frozen. Just warm on the oven a few minutes before serving.
