A make-ahead for early and surprise guests.



Berry-ful LemonyĀ Scones


Preheat oven to 400Āŗ F.


2 cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt 

Combine in large bowl.


¼ cup chilled butter, cut into small pieces 

Stir in gently until well-combined until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.


½ cup half and half or light cream

1 egg, slightly beaten

1 lemon zested and juiced

Add to flour mixture until just combined.


½ cup each, blueberries, raspberries and sliced strawberries( or combination of any berry to make 1 1/2 cups)

Add gently to batter mixture.

With floured hands, turn dough onto baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

 Shape into flat circle about ½-inch thick. 

Slice down with long sharp knife into 8 triangles.


1 tablespoon half and half or light cream

Brush on dough.


1 tablespoon sugar

Sprinkle over dough.


Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.Ā 


Makes 8 scones.
